Who are you?
I am Martien Verheyden, born and raised in Amsterdam. As a kid I have played the piano and drums. I developed a great passion for electronic music, particularly for house music. I prefer the sound of Chicago and Detroit, where house and techno came from, and ‘oldskool’ acid house.
I was very lucky to be there when house music took off in Amsterdam. In clubs like Roxy and iT, where the pioneers of the Dutch dance-scene had their first successes.
What’s your sound?
Martien likes to play deep house, minimal, oldskool, technohouse and techno with a touch of disco. In her sets she combines classics, old skool, and new productions. Deep, layered bass lines and sharp, high hats run through it like a continuous thread, always bound together in a tuneful, melodic way. She’s fond of the sound of the 303, 808 and 909.
